With two new smartphones on the market, it can be difficult to determine the best option for your next purchase. When these two smartphones are the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, it can be even more difficult. To help, we’ve explored the various features to help you make the right decision for you.
The Samsung S8 and S8 Plus are (admittedly) remarkably similar, as both phones feature a curved Infinity Display. Both phones also utilise Super AMOLED technology with identical widescreen ratios of 18.5:9 and resolutions of 1,440 x 2,960. With such similar displays, is there any difference between the phones? The only noticeable difference is the size. The S8 Plus is .4 inches larger than the S8 measuring in at 6.2 in. While the S8 Plus qualifies as a phablet based on its screen size, the S8 measuring in at 5.8 in. falls just below the 6.1
The only noticeable difference is the size. The S8 Plus is 0.4 inches larger than the S8 measuring in at 6.2 inches. While the S8 Plus qualifies as a phablet based on its screen size, the S8 measuring in at 5.8 inches falls just below the 6.1 cut-off. This variation in screen size and identical resolutions does mean that the S8 Plus would have slightly less pixels per inch. However, most people won’t be able to tell the difference.
In addition to size, battery capabilities are another feature that differs between the S8 and S8 Plus. The larger dimensions of the S8 Plus have provided extra space for battery power. So, the S8 Plus has 500mAh battery power compared to the S8. Keep in mind that at only 3,500mAh and 3,000mAh neither the S8 Plus or S8 have particularly substantial batteries. This means that multi-day battery life is not possible, but with the built-in battery saving functions, both phones can easily last 1.5 days and can be quickly charged.
There also aren’t many differences in the designs of the Samsung S8 and S8 Plus. Both phones have many of the same features such as a glass back, lack of a home button, and the location of the finger scanner (on the back next to the camera). They also both have IP68 ratings, which means that they have some water and dust resistance.
The only actual variation between these two phones is, again, due to their different sizes. Both the S8 and S8 Plus have identical height. However, the S8 Plus at 159 x 74 x 8mm is significantly longer and wider than the S8 at 148.9 x 68 x 8mm. The different dimensions also naturally causes the S8 Plus to be slightly heavier.
This is one feature that is completely identical within the S8 and S8 Plus. Both phones have a 12MP single lens camera like previous Samsung models. The front-facing camera has been improved from previous models to an 8MP. Sadly, comparing cameras on the S8 and S8 Plus won’t help you make the difficult decision between the two.
