Following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 yesterday, the S9 is looking to be a seriously impressive smartphone that follows on nicely from the S8 and its re-imagined camera is wowing users.
S9 camera specs
With the tagline: “The camera. Reimagined,” it’s no surprise that the camera is the standout feature of the Galaxy S9. The rear camera has dual-aperture technology that works much like the human eye and has the worlds’ first f/1.5 aperture on a phone.
This rear camera has the industry standard of 12MP, as we would expect, but it has improved its slow-motion video technology – raising the frame rate to an impressive 960fps for HD (720p) video and at 240fps for Full HD (1080p).
The front camera has the usual 8MP and a f/1.7 aperture, with auto-focus for high-quality selfies.
- Rear Camera: Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP AF sensor with OIS (F1.5/F2.4)
- Front Camera: 8MP AF (F1.7)
Internal components of the S9
Featuring Samsung’s new Exynos 9810 chipset, the Galaxy S9 packs a punch that runs faster, upgrades graphics and photo processing, improved facial recognition, and even boosts internet speed capabilities.
The phone also comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage – with a slot for a micro SD card for up to 400GB of extra storage – and a conservative 3,000mAh battery.

Galaxy S9 screen and body
The S9 has a 5.8” Infinity Display screen; keeping their signature look with a screen that wraps around the edges of your phone. The phone is minutely thicker than the S8 to fit in new components, but maintains the classic Galaxy range aesthetic.
The phone has front and back Gorilla Glass, for a durable finish that allows for wireless charging, with an aluminium frame for added strength. The phone also features a headphone jack for audiophiles and is IP68 dust and water-resistant.

Security and software of the S9
For security, the S9 features an iris scanner, face recognition, as well as the usual fingerprint scanner. The print scanner has also been moved to a more intuitive and comfortable place than in the S8.
Running Android Oreo, the biggest software change Samsung has introduced is the new AR Emoji – Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Animoji. AR Emoji generates a customisable virtual model based on a selfie and creates 18 different expression GIFs for you to send to via direct message and social media – as well as featuring face-tracking for personalised emojis.
