Grab a cuppa and put your feet up – it’s time for this week’s mobile news! This time we’ve got updates on the powerful Lenovo P2 and Google Maps uniting with Uber, as well as when we can expect to see the next handsets from Huawei and Nokia.
Lenovo P2 boasts three-day battery life
If you’re tired of constantly reaching for your charger throughout the day, the Lenovo P2 is here to save the day! The Chinese handset features a huge 5,100mAH battery alongside fast-charging capabilities to provide up to three days of battery life. There’s also an innovative power saving button on the side of the device that will reduce the phone to basic functions when pressed in order to save as much battery as possible.
What’s more, the Lenovo P2 is only 8.5mm thick despite having such a large battery. It also features a crisp 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 13MP camera and a hefty 32GB of storage. The smartphone supports Android 6 Marshmallow with an impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor under the hood. Keep an eye out for the Lenovo P2 to hit our shores later this month.
Huawei P10 to launch in February
Huawei is expected to launch a new flagship at an exclusive event on February 26th, with all signs pointing to the unveiling of the Huawei P10. Coming the day before MWC 2017, it is likely we could see the new device showcased at the conference against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.
We don’t know too much about the new Huawei handset, but rumours suggest a huge improvement from the Huawei P9 with a 5.5-inch QHD display, 6GB of RAM and hopefully, curved edges. 2017 may well be the year that Huawei holds its own against heavyweights like Apple and Samsung.
Request an Uber from Google Maps
In another stride towards app integration, you can now request an Uber from within Google Maps. Previously, you could begin your order in Google Maps but had to finish it in the Uber app itself – now you can complete the entire transaction without switching app.
Simply type in where you’d like to go in Google Maps and hit the Uber button to see how much it will cost you to get there. If you’re happy, hit request and your driver will be with you shortly. While en route, Google Maps even lets you check out useful information, such as menus, so you’re all prepped when you get there.
New Nokia to debut at MWC 2017
If you can’t wait to see what Nokia has in store, you may not have to wait much longer. The company recently announced its return to the smartphone market with the Nokia 6, but left many disappointed as it will only go on sale in China. But, Nokia has now teased a new announcement on their Facebook, coming on February 26th – just in time for MWC 2017.
We’ve got our fingers crossed that this announcement will be the release of a new Nokia device in the western world. Whether this means an international release for the Nokia 6 or an unveiling of a completely new product, we’re counting down the days to find out!
Apple not interested in home voice assistants
With the rise of Amazon Echo and Google Home, you’d be forgiven for thinking Apple is in the midst of developing its take on a home voice assistant. However, one of Apple’s Senior Vice Presidents, Phil Schiller, has confirmed the company won’t be unveiling one any time soon.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone launch, Schiller emphasised the importance of display for Apple with some of the best innovations on the iPhone coming from display. Combine that with Siri, he believes home assistants can’t quite compare to seeing the results for yourself. But, don’t rule Apple out completely – with the undeniable popularity of home voice assistants, we may yet see one from them in the future.
