What’s an eligible tariff for Recommend a Friend?

An eligible tariff is any pay monthly phone contract or any pay monthly SIM only contract of 12 or 18 months on a new account. Numbers added to existing Tesco Mobile accounts and 1 month SIM only contracts aren’t included.

Can I add someone to my account and get the money off with Recommend a Friend?

Sorry no, your friend needs to join on a new account to get the money off your bills with Recommend a Friend. If your friend joins on an existing Tesco Mobile account, remember that they can enjoy Family Perks instead.

Who can recommend a friend?

Who can I recommend?

You can recommend any friends who aren’t with Tesco Mobile already. They’ll need to have a valid UK mobile number that they can bring from their current network across to Tesco Mobile. If your friend has already been recommended by someone else, you won’t be able to recommend them.

How do I recommend a Friend?

If you’ve got a friend who’d like to join Tesco Mobile, ask if you can recommend them. If they say yes, then head to our Recommendations Centre and put their details in.

What happens after I recommend a friend?

Once you’ve recommended a friend, we’ll send them an email and a text letting them know that you’ve recommended them, how to join and how to get the money off their bill. If they join, we’ll check that all the Recommend a Friend conditions have been met, and if they have, you’ll both get the money off your next bill. What do I need to do to get the money off our bills?

How much money will I get off my bill?

The amount you get off your bill depends on the tariff your friend chooses. They can join Tesco Mobile on a new account on any pay monthly phone contract or any 12 or 18 month pay monthly SIM only contract. You and your friend will both get the same amount of money off your bill.

  • If they join on a tariff of less than £20 a month, you both get £10 off your bill
  • If they join on a tariff of £20 or more a month, you both get £20 off your bill

Remember that you need to make sure you both meet all the Recommend a Friend conditions to get the money off your bill.

How can I see what’s happening with my recommendations?

You can check how your recommendations are going any time in our Recommendations Centre. You’ll be able to see who you’ve recommended, whether they’ve joined and if/when you’ll get the money off your bill.

Why haven’t I got money off my bill?

If your friend has joined on a new account, on an eligible tariff and brought their number over to Tesco Mobile, there a few possible reasons why you haven’t got the money off your bill. It could be that we’re still checking that you’ve both met all the Recommend a Friend conditions, or perhaps your friend hasn’t received their first bill yet. You can check the status of all your recommendations in our Recommendations Centre.

If my friend returns their phone will we still get the money off our bills?

Sorry no, if your friend returns their phone within the 14 day cooling off period neither of you will get the money off your bill.

My friend’s recommended me, what do I need to do now?

You need to join Tesco Mobile on a new account and on an eligible pay monthly tariff within 60 days of being recommended. Once you’ve joined, you’ll need to transfer your number from your old network to Tesco Mobile. Then we’ll do some checks to make sure that you’ve both met all the Recommend a Friend conditions. To bring your number over to Tesco Mobile, first you need to ask for a PAC from your old network. You can then use our text service to transfer your number, it’s really easy.

It could be that we’re still checking that you’ve both met all the Recommend a Friend conditions, or perhaps you haven’t received your first bill yet. I’ve joined on a tariff that’s not eligible for Recommend a Friend. Is there anything I can do?

If you change to an eligible tariff within 60 days of being recommended, you’ll should still be able to get your money off. To change your tariff, just give us a call on 0800 433 4990. If you joined on pay as you go, we can move you onto pay monthly and if you joined on 30 day SIM only, we can move you onto 12 month SIM only.

If I return my phone will we still get the money off our bills?

Sorry no, if you return your phone within the 14 day cooling off period neither of you will get the money off your bill.
