Our pricing

While the big networks have been raising their prices mid-contract for years, here at Tesco Mobile, we make sure our customers always have an option to freeze their price.

Each April, some of our basic monthly usage prices and basic monthly prices (depending on the contract type) rise in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation published each January + 3.9%. See the ‘What does this mean for me?’ section below for more detail.

What does this mean for me?

If your minimum contract period ended before 1 February 2024, your basic monthly usage price or basic monthly price (depending on your contract type) will receive the annual rise from April 2024. We’ll be in touch with you via email or SMS between 8th February and 7th March 2024 with more information.

If you’re an Anytime Upgrade Flex customer and you’ve paid off your whole phone contract upfront, the annual rise to your basic monthly usage price each April will only apply after the first 12 months from the start of your phone contract (credit agreement).

If you’re an Anytime Upgrade Flex customer and you’ve paid off your phone contract early (but not wholly upfront), the annual rise to your basic monthly usage price each April will only apply after your original minimum contract period has ended.

If you joined us before 27 March 2023 on any deal and you’re still within your minimum contract period, or if you joined us from 27 March 2023 on a Clubcard Price deal, the annual rise to your basic monthly usage price or basic monthly price (depending on your contract type) each April will only apply once your minimum contract period ends. (If you’re an Anytime Upgrade Flex customer, your contract refers to your phone contract – not your rolling monthly usage contract.)

If you joined us from 27 March 2023 on a non-Clubcard Price deal, your basic monthly usage price or basic monthly price will receive the annual rise from April 2024.

We'll always let you know at least 30 days before we make any changes to our pricing. We’ll also let you know what the total price rise percentage will be for that specific year (by taking the CPI rate published in January of that year and adding 3.9%).

How the annual price rise is calculated

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the annual change in consumer prices for a typical basket of goods and services. The CPI rate is calculated and published monthly by the Office for National Statistics. The government uses CPI as the basis for its inflation target and for the uprating of state pensions and benefits. We have no say in what the CPI rate is or how it’s calculated.

The extra 3.9% reflects the rising costs of both maintaining and improving a mobile network’s connectivity services.

Each year, we’ll take the CPI rate published in January and add 3.9% to get a total percentage. If the annual price rise applies to you, your basic monthly usage price or basic monthly price (depending on your contract type) will rise by the total percentage each April. (If the CPI rate is negative, your price will only rise by 3.9%.) The rise will be rounded down to the nearest whole pence.

At least 30 days before we make any changes to our pricing, we’ll let you know what your current price is and what your new price will be. Please be aware, in the email or SMS we send you, your current price and new price won’t include any discounts you may have (such as a Family Perk, loyalty bundle or friends and family discount). But rest assured, any existing discounts will be applied to your new price and reflected on your bill.

Here’s an example of how the annual price rise is calculated, based on the 4% CPI rate published in January 2024:
