In 2025, we updated our network to bring you a faster, more reliable service. As part of these changes, we switched off our 3G service across the UK.
To avoid connection issues, you’ll need to use a phone that supports 4G Calling (also known as VoLTE). Some phones may need a software update to enable this feature.
The phone models listed below will support 4G Calling after a software update. If your phone isn’t mentioned it may already offer this feature, or you may need to upgrade to a different device. You can check your phone here.
If you don’t update your software and enable 4G Calling, you’ll have limited connectivity.

To find your Samsung device's model number, navigate to the Settings app, then tap ‘About phone’ or ‘About device.’
Follow these instructions to update your Samsung phone’s software
- You’ll get a notification asking you to update and restart your phone
- Tap ‘Apply and restart’ to begin the update process
- Not ready yet? If you choose ‘Later’, we’ll keep reminding you until it’s done
- Once updated, you’re all set — 4G Calling will turn on automatically

Apple devices
You may need to download a software update if you are using an iPhone 7, iPhone 8 or an iPhone X variant.
To find your Apple device's model number, navigate to the Settings app, then tap ‘General’, then tap ‘About.’
Follow these instructions to update your Apple phone’s software
- Open Settings → Tap General → Then About
- See a pop-up? Tap Update to refresh your carrier settings
- Haven’t updated? You’ll get a reminder on your home screen after two weeks
