Understanding SIM cards

If you’ve taken out a new order with us, we’ll send you a Tri-SIM which contains all three SIM sizes available.

Check your new phone carefully to see which size you need to pop out. You can also check the phone instructions or look at your phone’s device guide for step-by-step instructions.

You’ll need to pop out the right sized SIM for your phone from the plastic card. On the back of your card you’ll see your mobile number and SIM serial number.

If you pop out the wrong sized SIM then you’ll need to contact us to get a replacement SIM. If you’re a business customer, please contact us.

Note – If you upgrade with us, we’ll only send you a new SIM if you let us know you need one.

Your SIM will usually need to be inserted into the removable SIM tray or under the battery. If you need help with this, our device guides give you step-by-step instructions.

eSIM

An eSIM is a digital SIM activated via QR code – replacing a traditional physical SIM and has a lesser impact on the environment as it reduces plastic waste and has lower CO2 emissions.

Upgrading your phone

If you didn’t need a new SIM because your old phone and new phone take the same size SIM, simply put your old SIM into your new phone and use it as normal.

If you let us know you needed a new SIM when you upgraded, it will be on the side of your new phone’s box, so you’ll need to insert it into your new phone. To see how to do this, check our device guides

You’ll also need to switch your number to your new SIM. Whilst your number is switching over, this SIM may show as a Tesco Mobile pay as you go SIM card. This is normal and will change when your number has transferred.
